History of Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh got its beginning and was opened. Edinburgh was actually known as the Turnhouse Aerodrome, and was used as a defense base in World War 1. The base was used to house 603 Squadron until 1925. In 1918, The Royal Air Force was formed. At this time, the Turnhouse Aerodrome was given a new name – the RAF Turnhouse, and was then taken under control by the Ministry of Defense.

When the Second World War came to be, the RAF Fighter Command took control of the Airfield.

Onward, in the 1940’s, the first commercial services to the general public began to be offered. In 1971, the British Airport Authority, otherwise known as the BAA, took control of the Airport and made major improvements on the space, such as expansion and adding new runways along with hundred of jobs in Edinburgh Airport, The Royal Turnhouse eventually went on to close down in 1997.
